Step 1 – Understanding the Question
TheExplore phaseof theSAP Activate methodologyfocuses on confirming scope, validating SAP Best Practice processes, and finalizing solution design decisions throughFit-to-Standard workshops.
TheSAP Project Managerplays a leadership and coordination role — ensuring workshops are executed, project governance is active, and the configuration approach remains aligned with standard SAP practices.
Step 2 – Evaluate Each Option
A. Monitor completion of the Business Driven Configuration Questionnaire
TheBusiness-Driven Configuration Questionnaire (BDCQ)captures key requirements and process-specific decisions from the customer.
During the Explore phase, the SAP Project Manager ensures the questionnaire is completed accurately to support Fit-to-Standard discussions.
Monitoring completion of this document is a formal responsibility of the Project Manager.
Result:Correct – It is a key management activity during Explore.
B. Develop detailed technical specifications for custom development
This activity is owned bytechnical consultants or developers, not the Project Manager.
The Project Manager’s role is to oversee progress and governance, not to write or develop technical designs.
Result:Incorrect – Outside the PM’s direct responsibilities.
C. Develop a detailed technical architecture design
Architecture design is the responsibility oftechnical architects, finalized in the Prepare phase before workshops begin.
The Project Manager reviews and monitors this work but does not develop it.
Result:Incorrect – Managed, but not developed by the Project Manager.
D. Conduct fit-to-standard workshops
The Project Manager coordinates and ensures Fit-to-Standard workshops are completed according to plan.
The PM’s role includes scheduling, logistics, resource allocation, and monitoring outcomes.
While consultants lead the content of workshops, the PM ensures they are conducted effectively and documented.
Result:Correct – Conducting and managing workshops is part of the Project Manager’s Explore responsibilities.
E. Establish the Solution Standardization Board
TheSolution Standardization Board (SSB)is established during Explore to govern deviation requests from SAP Best Practices.
The Project Manager facilitates the setup of this board and ensures that change requests are reviewed and approved in line with the clean-core principle.
Result:Correct – Establishing and managing the SSB is part of the Project Manager’s Explore phase tasks.
